C4U Massey Coffee
While studying I partnered with the owner of the coffee cart at the Massey University Campus in Albany. As a partner it was in my interest to improve systems to increase productivity, ie the rate that quality coffee could be produced during busy times. It was also in my interest to promote the cart by running special promotions, introducing new products, creating and managing a Facebook page, and differentiating the cart from the other student canteen options (by creating a more eclectic feeling brand with friendly service).
Additional revenue streams were created by promoting and running short barista courses, complete with participation certificate, to assist students applying for cafe work in support of their studies. Further, variations of coffee were introduced to appeal to different student tastes, by creating and promoting flavoured coffees such as the very popular caramel mocha, using natural, locally produced flavouring syrups.
I actually worked at the cart two times a week, which was miserable work on a rainy day however very interesting when I got to spend extra time chatting to my lecturers. After completing my studies I exited the venture and the business has now upgraded to a renovated combi-van.
